It happened again!

By now, I’ve had it happen myself and seen it happen with clients so many times that I’m not completely astonished. And there is still a tiny part of me that’s a bit surprised and a huge part of me that’s swimmingly delighted.

What is “it?” you may be asking.

It is getting clear about, asking for, and then actually getting what you want.

Recently I was working with Sarah Barrie, a fabulous graphic artist, on the design of my website. She created seven different designs for me to choose from.

One of them was my clear favorite. It was just what I wanted but . . . . The woman in the photo was wearing a thong that, on close inspection, showed under her white skirt and her legs were spread wide apart. Not many women approaching 60 wear thongs and we were also raised in an era where ladies kept their legs tightly closed.

These two problems with the photo were deal breakers for me. I wouldn’t use this photo on my site which meant I couldn’t have the website design I loved. Discouraged, I figured it was back to the drawing board.

But then I made a different decision.

I decided to ask for what I wanted.

I was pretty sure it was impossible. I thought it was sort of ridiculous, too picky, and too demanding to even ask.

But, in spite of all conversation in my head, I emailed Sarah that if I had a magic wand, the woman in the photo would have a full bathing suit and her legs wouldn’t be spread.

Sarah quickly emailed back to say she could do that. No problem for her. (I told you she was good!)

I was so excited I was jumping up and down in my kitchen.  I could have the design I loved.

Once again the magic of asking for what I want had happened.

I got what I truly, deeply wanted. All because I took time to get clear about what I really wanted and was willing to ask for it.

Surprised fairy princess.

Want to get clear about what you want in some big or small area of your life? Ask yourself , “If I could wave a magic wand and anything were possible, what would I ask for?” and then allow yourself to be open to the answers.

Once you know what you want, take a risk. Go for it. Ask for it. You never know what seemingly impossible things might happen.

  1. Bonnie- I am savoring my 40s but I love your stuff, your insights, and your attitude. I actually have a “real” magic wand. It was 99 cents on clearance at the party store. I am learning to get clear, set my intention, and oh my gosh – it works. I had a small speaking gig and decided that morning that I would sell ten books. And yes, I sold ten books. That is one small example that you are right. It works. Thank you for sharing your light with the world.

  2. Yes, it does work. Even if what you focus on is something you ‘don’t’ want; you’ll get it. I have seen this working in my life for the last couple of years. I have a hard time focusing on what I want instead of thinking about what I don’t want, but it makes all the difference in the world. Wherever your focus is, is what comes to you. It’s very hard at first because I had been raised to just take whatever comes; boy was I surprised to find out you don’t have to live that way! The first time it worked for me was driving to work. I frequently get tailgated since I drive on small streets with a 25 or 30 speed limit. I just thought about having a bubble around my car that no other vehicle could penetrate; and it worked. It’s funny to see someone right on my bumper; conjure up the ‘bubble’; and watch them fall back. It’s such a little thing, but so wonderful to know it works for little things as well as big things.

  3. Hi, Kelly! I’m so glad to see you here. Thank you for your kind & encouraging words.

Congratulations on your book sale. That’s exciting! Getting clear & setting intentions are, indeed, powerful tools. No guarantees & they do improve the odds.

BTW, I have a “real” magic wand, too. It might have been way more expensive than yours, like $5. :) And it is one of the best, best, best presents my husband ever gave me. 15 or so years later, it still makes me smile.

  4. Hi, Ruth! You’re right, it can work for small and big stuff. And focusing on what you don’t want often gets you more of what you don’t want. That’s why, as you know, it’s so very important to be clear about and focus on what we do want.
