“Some people have a wonderful capacity to appreciate again and again, freshly and naively, the basic goods of life, with awe, pleasure, wonder, and even ecstasy.”

Abraham H. Maslow

Being able to breathe. To see. To hear. To walk. To touch. To taste.

Food on the table. Shelter from the elements. Water to quench thirst.

Arms. Hands. Fingers. Legs. Feet. Toes.

Sky. Sun. Sea. Moon. Trees. Flowers.

Samish sky

These and more are the “basics” of life for most of us. Let’s cultivate our capacity to appreciate them, to marvel at them, to savor them.
