The Best 60th Birthday Present

by Bonnie

Turning 60 is an occasion worth celebrating. But how?

For my 60th birthday, my wonderful husband treated me to an experience I’d longed to do for 20 years, a chance to  touch a whale.  That was memorable!

When he turned 60, I wanted to do something special for him. We celebrated with a trip to Banff and he also had a party at the race track for his car guy friends.

But my favorite part of his birthday was this . . . .

What Could Be Better?

Without Denny knowing, I contacted friends and family and asked them to record a message for him of a favorite story or memory of him; a quality, trait, or talent of his they admired; or what they thought makes Denny special.

These funny, touching, heart-felt, moving messages were captured on a keepsake CD which I gave him on his birthday.

Denny says,

“The CD was filled with wonderful birthday wishes and memories from dozens of my family members and closest friends. Seldom, if ever, do the significant people in our lives have the opportunity to tell stories about us as well as shower us with their love and appreciation. It felt great to be on the receiving end and this will be a gift I’ll treasure always.”

I had such fun doing this for him and I can’t imagine a more meaningful or memorable gift to give someone. In fact, I hope someday I get one myself!

If you’d like to give a keepsake CD to someone or perhaps drop a hint about what you’d like for your birthday, Life on Record offers a simple, affordable service to help you do this.

Hi Bonnie,
What a great ‘thing’ to know about. Thanks for sharing this information about Life on Record. I believe I will be mentioning it in my blog as well so even more people will know about it.

Hi, Jacquie! Glad you liked the Life on Record idea. My aunt did this for her husband’s 70th. That’s how I first heard about this. I thought it was such a wonderful, wonderful idea I knew immediately I’d make it part of my husband’s next b’day.

I’m glad you brought up this idea. We did something similar for our son’s 21st birthday this year. We asked friends and family to send him e-mail or snail mail birthday greetings, along with words of wisdom for him as he moved into adulthood, this major next step in his life journey. It was so fun hearing about the funny and serious advice he received. I hope someday I get to be the recipient of something like this…it feels wonderful to be showered with love (and wisdom).

Kathy, that is a marvelous gift for a 21 year old! What a wonderful idea! For my mother’s 80th, we asked people to send letters, photos, etc & put them in a scrapbook for her. She loved it! These are the kind of gifts that are unforgettable and so meaningful.
